Campfield, Manchester

It’s been amazing to see this iconic industrial landmark reimagined as a 135,000 square foot campus for co-working & events in the centre of Manchester. The grade II listed site has seen so many iterations throughout its history as a Victorian Market to an Air & Space Museum to the co-working campus, media production and event space it is today. The development has even sparked an archaeological dig and the discovery of Roman ruins and a Roman road on Liverpool Road!

This cements the cultural history of the area and makes it all the more exciting to be associated with this ever-evolving space.

Department took on the job of sensitively repurposing and refurbishing the building, allowing the industrial elements to show whilst implementing next generation design.

The stunning vaulted ceilings have allowed for endless natural light and the space for the canopies of our statement 4-meter tall Bucida Bulnesias!

You’ll find a lush perspective of greenery across the entire ground floor and mezzanine, with a variety of floor-standing plants like Zamioculcas, Ficus Robusta, Strelitzia, large Monstera, and Ficus Lyrata.

We carefully selected planters to accent the building’s rich history, using corrugated metal to echo its industrial past, beautifully offset by warmer terracotta and terrazzo planters. It has been a pleasure to see the space come together, and to watch it thrive as an inspiring creative hub, literally buzzing in the middle of Manchester! 🐝
