Designers and developers must now consider the long-term viability of the ecosystems they create. This requires a deeper understanding of soil health, local climate resilience, and plant succession. It moves the industry away from “instant impact” landscaping toward a more sustainable, slow-growth mindset that values how a space will mature over decades.

While BNG is a technical, metric-driven requirement, its byproduct is a significant increase in human-centric design. By requiring more nature on-site, the law is making biophilic design the new standard.
